We optimized electrical-infrastructure management for UTE


We partnered with UTE to modernize its energy transmission and distribution network by digitalizing electrical substations. We supplied equipment such as switches, redboxes, synchronization clocks, communication equipment for MPLS networks, and cellular routers for secure, reliable connections. Substation digitalization improves the efficiency, safety, and reliability of operations and maintenance, thanks to modern sensors, control and automation systems, digital communications, and data analytics. Rolling out these technologies has let UTE optimize how it manages its electrical infrastructure, respond better to events, and deliver a more reliable service to its users.
The challenge
UTE set out to modernize its energy transmission and distribution network by digitalizing its electrical substations. A digitalized substation runs on modern sensors, control and automation systems, digital communications, and data analytics, which requires bringing in and coordinating specialized equipment. The challenge is not only technological: each component has to integrate with existing systems and operate reliably in a critical environment, where a failure can affect the power supply to a large number of users.
The solution
We partnered with UTE by supplying equipment such as switches, redboxes, synchronization clocks, communication gear for MPLS networks, and cellular routers for secure, reliable connections. These components are the base on which a substation begins operating digitally, with greater monitoring and control capacity. The combination of MPLS communications and cellular connections provides redundant paths, so the substation keeps its connectivity even if one of them goes down.
The impact
Digitalization improves the efficiency, safety, and reliability of the network's operation and maintenance.
