We are modernizing MontevideoGas's consumption monitoring and metering system

With our partner Kaifa, we are replacing traditional gas meters with smart telemeters to modernize the infrastructure of the country's main natural-gas distributor. The upgrade delivers more accurate consumption readings and eliminates human error when recording them, while adding convenience for customers: there's no need to schedule a home visit to read the meter. The new system can also detect service faults and tampering attempts.
The challenge
MontevideoGas, the country's main natural-gas distributor, operates with traditional meters that require someone to visit the home to read consumption. That model introduces human error into the record, forces visits to be scheduled, and limits the ability to detect faults or tampering in time. For a distributor, every inaccurate reading or missed visit has a cost, and the lack of real-time information makes it harder to respond quickly to a problem on the network.
The solution
With our partner Kaifa, we are replacing traditional gas meters with smart telemeters to modernize the distributor's metering infrastructure. The new technology takes readings remotely, which removes the need for a home visit and eliminates human error when recording consumption values. The telemeters report automatically, so the distributor receives periodic, consistent information from each point without depending on coordinating with the customer.
The impact
The upgrade allows more accurate readings and greater convenience for customers, who no longer depend on scheduling a visit. On top of that, the system can detect service faults and tampering attempts, which improves both the distributor's operation and the safety of the network. With reliable, up-to-date data, MontevideoGas can bill more accurately and anticipate situations that used to be detected only during an in-person visit.
