We helped build Uruguay's largest data network

We worked with Nokia to design, deploy, expand, and support the country's largest high-capacity transport network, owned by Antel. It carries many types of traffic at high volume. It powers everything from home internet access (someone streaming a movie at home) to banks and financial institutions managing customer data and transactions in the cloud. At the same time, it lays the groundwork for the arrival of 5G in Uruguay.
The challenge
Antel runs Uruguay's largest high-capacity transport network, an infrastructure that has to move many types of traffic and large volumes of data at the same time. Sustaining and expanding a network of this size demands a design that serves home internet access and the critical workloads of banks and financial institutions alike. Each of those uses has different requirements for capacity, latency, and availability, and they all have to coexist on the same network without interfering with one another.
The solution
We worked with Nokia to design, deploy, expand, and support this transport network, owned by Antel. It is a high-capacity network, ready to carry many types of traffic and to grow in volume. Its architecture powers everything from home internet access to banks and financial institutions managing data and transactions in the cloud. Our involvement spans the whole life cycle of the network, so its capacity is expanded in a planned way as demand rises.
The impact
Beyond sustaining the country's current traffic, the network lays the groundwork for the arrival of 5G in Uruguay. A strong transport layer is a prerequisite for new generations of mobile services, so the work on this network enables capabilities that will rely on it in the years ahead. As the country's largest transport network, any improvement in its capacity or availability translates into a benefit for a wide base of services and users.
