We helped Panama get ready for the arrival of 5G
Working with Nokia, we began redesigning the network of a telecommunications operator present in 9 Latin American countries, ahead of the 5G rollout in Panama. 5G, already a reality in parts of the region, will bring benefits including higher speeds, greater bandwidth, more connected devices, and lower latency.
The challenge
A telecommunications operator present in nine Latin American countries was getting ready for the 5G rollout in Panama. Before switching on the new generation of network, its existing infrastructure had to be redesigned to meet 5G's demands on speed, bandwidth, device density, and latency. A redesign like this has to be done without interrupting the services already in production, which requires carefully planning every stage of the transition to the new architecture.
The solution
Working with Nokia, we began redesigning the operator's network ahead of 5G in Panama. The work aims to prepare the infrastructure for the characteristics of the new network, so the operator can deliver the benefits tied to 5G once the rollout is complete. The redesign covers the layers that need to evolve to keep up with the rise in traffic and the greater number of connected devices this technology brings.
The impact
The arrival of 5G in the region, already a reality in some places, brings higher speeds, more bandwidth, more connected devices, and lower latency. Preparing the network today is what turns those benefits into something tangible for users in Panama as the service comes online. The work also leaves the network better positioned to support services that depend on low latency, which are hard to sustain on earlier generations.
