We keep mission-critical communications running for forestry producers in Uruguay
We modernized the mission-critical communications system of Uruguay's Society of Forestry Producers to make it easier to coordinate response teams in real time during wildfire outbreaks. We designed, implemented, and support a solution that unifies communications in a command center. The command center can now see the real-time, secure status of response teams, redirect a squad on the spot, or relay any action needed during wildfire response.
The challenge
Uruguay's Society of Forestry Producers, which brings together the producers behind most of the country's industrial forests, coordinates response teams during wildfire outbreaks, a task where every minute and every decision matter. Its mission-critical communications system needed modernizing to give a command center real-time visibility and secure control over the teams in the field. In large, hard-to-reach forest areas, communications cannot depend on conventional coverage, because an interruption during a response compromises people's safety.
The solution
We designed, implemented, and support a solution that unifies communications in a command center. We installed VHF radio equipment across the forest areas and linked it to a data center, so from the command center it is possible to see the real-time, secure status of response teams, redirect a squad on the spot, and relay any action needed during wildfire response. The solution brings together radio coverage in the field with centralized coordination.
The impact
Wildfire response coordination now rests on real-time information and reliable communications. The command center can make and relay decisions quickly, which strengthens the field teams' ability to react. Being mission-critical communications, the solution is designed to work precisely at the moments of greatest demand, when timely information can make the difference in bringing an outbreak under control and in protecting the people working on the ground.
