We worked with Antel to launch number portability
We implemented Antel's gateway for Uruguay's number-portability project in record time, letting users switch phone companies while keeping their number. The gateway enables communication between Antel's systems and the ADB (database administrator). It also verifies compliance with portability rules and takes part in the automated processes that make it possible.
The challenge
Number portability lets a person switch phone companies without losing their number. Launching that service in Uruguay required Antel's systems to communicate with the project's central database and to comply with the rules governing each operator change, on a tight schedule. Portability is a service all operators take part in at once, so each one has to integrate its systems into the same ecosystem and follow the same processes for the number change to work transparently for the user.
The solution
We implemented Antel's gateway for the number-portability project in record time. The gateway enables communication between Antel's systems and the ADB, the database administrator, verifies compliance with the portability rules, and takes part in the automated processes that make it work. By automating the exchange of information and the validation of rules, the gateway lets each portability request be processed consistently and within the timeframes the service requires.
The impact
Number portability went live in Uruguay in January 2022, and since then users can switch phone companies while keeping their number. The solution integrated Antel into the service's ecosystem within the timeframe set for launch. For users, portability means being able to choose their operator more freely, and for the market, an arrangement where the number is no longer a barrier to switching companies.
