We designed, supplied, installed, and configured data networks for two iconic hotels in the Dominican Republic. We implemented Nokia's GPON solution, which guarantees high connection speeds for 800 rooms. It also delivers major energy savings, since the infrastructure needs no electrical power. We also installed an Alcatel-Lucent central management platform, letting operators manage and configure everything from one place.

The challenge

Two iconic hotels in the Dominican Republic operated by Playa Hotels & Resorts, Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Cap Cana and Hilton La Romana, needed data networks able to guarantee high connection speeds across hundreds of rooms. In first-class hospitality, connectivity is part of the guest experience, and it has to hold up without exception in every room. On top of the performance requirement comes operational efficiency, because in facilities this size energy consumption and ease of management matter as much as speed.

The solution

We designed, supplied, installed, and configured both hotels' data networks. We implemented Nokia's GPON solution, which guarantees high speed for 800 rooms and delivers major energy savings, since the access infrastructure needs no electrical power. We also installed an Alcatel-Lucent central management platform, letting operators run and configure the network from a single place. With GPON, fiber reaches the room with less active equipment in between, which simplifies maintenance and reduces points of failure.

The impact

Guests at both hotels have high-speed connectivity in their rooms, and operators manage the whole network from a central platform. The GPON solution delivers performance and, at the same time, lowers the infrastructure's energy use, a meaningful benefit for large hotel operations. Centralized management also makes it possible to handle configurations and adjustments without walking the hotel, which speeds up the technical team's work and reduces the impact on the guest experience.
